Self Love is all about process, balance and symmetry.

It first starts with the awkward act of an individual being filmed giving an air hug. The video footage is then flipped and composited back onto itself using blending methods that imply the the person is hugging themselves. Video stills are then taken and are further manipulated to distill the inherent symmetry. Next, the photo is inverted so that it can be printed onto transparency paper, creating a sort of photo negative. The negative is then used to create the end product: a cyanotype - a process that uses a chemical that is reactive to the UV light of the sun.

Upon reflection of this process, I realized that my actions and the work that resulted were symbolic. When we learn to love ourselves, we can find a sort of peace in the symmetry and balance of the process.
